Frequently Asked Questions...
Did Your Grandparents Drive Cars?
Not one of my grandparents learned to drive. My grandfathers died around 1960, and my grand mothers died in the late 60's and mid 70's. One grandfather farmed with mules, and drove a wagon into town until the 50's. The other grandfather moved into town and walked or took the bus and cab everywhere. He was a painter part time and retired from John Deere in the 50's.
Answer:
None of them drove. My own mother didn't even learn how to drive until she was 46 & that was in 1966! Her new husband insisted that she learn to drive because he was moving us all to the country. Until then, we always walked, took the bus, trolly, or a taxi cab & lived in the big City, where everything was within walking distance.
